Boston Cream Pie Cheesecake

We all know that my favorite dessert is a cheesecake. For Josh, his favorite is Boston Cream Pie – whether it be a pie or even a donut. What better way to combine our favorites into one dessert. This first one I made was a success. His only additional request now is to make the a vanilla pudding flavored cheesecake. For now though, enjoy this great dessert if you are undecided on what type of dessert to have.

Prep & Cook Time: 5 hours & 20 minutes (including refrigeration)

Ingredients:

  • 1 pkg (single layer) Yellow Cake

  • 3 (8oz) cream cheese, room temperature

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3/4 cup sour cream, room temperature

  • 3 eggs

  • 2 cups cool whip

  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven at 325 degrees.

  2. Yellow Cake: Prepare cake batter as directed on package. Spray a 9-inch springform pan with cooking spray. Pour cake batter into springform pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool.

  3. Cheesecake: In a stand mixer using a paddle attachment, beat the cream cheese and sugar together on medium speed until mixture is smooth and creamy about 3 minutes. Add and beat in the sour cream and vanilla extract. Once combined, on a low speed add one egg at a time, allowing each egg to blend in with the filling mix. Do not overmix the filling after you have added the eggs. Pour over cake layer.

  4. Place the pan into a roasting pan and fill with about an inch of water. Place in the oven. The foil around the pan will keep the water out. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the center is almost set. Turn the oven off and leave the oven door slightly open, while you let the cheesecake sit in the oven for 1 hour.

  5. Chocolate Topping: Microwave cool whip and chocolate in a microwaveable bowl on HIGH 1 1/2 minutes or until chocolate is completely melted and mixture is blended, stirring after each minute. Cool for 15 minutes. Slowly pour over cheesecake. Refrigerate for 3 hours.

  1. Holy wow! That sounds really good. I love that you combined your favorite desserts together. I made a carrot cake cheesecake for my husband in HS because those were his two favorites.

  2. I am definitely making this next month for my own birthday cake! I love Boston Creme doughnuts and can’t ever seem to find them in Texas.

  3. That’s a variation that I’ve never had. I usually just stick to chocolate cheesecake, but I think I would love this one!
