Slow-Cooker Asian Habanero Chicken Wraps

Slow Cooker Weekend! Yesterday I received a Yummly daily recipe e-mail and it was all about wraps. I scrolled through the list and showed Josh. He picked out an Asian Chicken Wrap slow-cooker recipe. When the weather is cold, we love adding spice to our food to warm us up. To spice things up we used our favorite pepper – the Habanero. Another reason why we love this recipe is that it is a quick and easy slow-cooker dish to get ready for dinner.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 2 1/2-3 Hours on Low

Servings: About 12 wraps, about 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs ground chicken (not ground chicken breast)

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 Tbsp finely chopped habanero pepper (about 2-3 peppers)

  • 1 tsp oil

  • 1/2 cup peas

  • 1/2 cup corn kernels

  • 1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion

  • 1/2 cup Hoisin Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce

  • Salt & Pepper for taste

  • 1 1/2 cups cooked white or brown rice

  • 3 green onions, chopped

  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 1/2 tsp sesame oil

  • 1 Tbsp red pepper flakes

  • 2 heads iceberg lettuce

Directions:

  1. Place ground chicken and garlic in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave mixture until chicken is no longer pink for about 5-6 minutes. Stir occasionally. Drain off liquid and pour into a 4-qt slow-cooker.

  2. Heat oil in a small skillet over medium heat. Sauté habanero pepper for 3-4 minutes. Add habanero to slow cooker.

  3. Add peas, corn kernels, onion, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, 1/2 tsp salt & 1/2 tsp black pepper in slow cooker. Mix to combine all ingredients completely. Cover and cook for 2 1/2-3 hours on low until chicken is tender.

  4. Stir in cooked rice, green onions, rice vinegar, sesame oil and red pepper flakes. Cover and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Add salt and pepper as desired.

  5. Separate iceberg lettuce leaves and serve with chicken filling. Optional: Top with a drizzle of Siracha

  1. Our house is split with the spicy food. My husband and son love spicy food and my daughter and I cannot stand it. I will have to keep this recipe if I ever feel like super Mom and make two dinners one night!

    1. This will be easy to make so that when you are making a dish for you and your daughter, their food is just cooking away in the slow cooker.

  2. I love the slow cooker. This recipe looks yummy. I might sub the spicy peppers for something a little more mild, but that’s just because I’m a baby.

  3. These look so delicious. Wraps are mine and my kids favorite, they eat veggies, chicken, everything I put in the wraps, will be trying it at home this weekend.

    1. Yeah it does give a bit of sweetness. You can add more corn to it if you want to get the spicy sweet you desire. Can’t wait for you to try it out.
